An update on SPARK, a new film from Time-Out Films and director Andrew Klaus :

So we are in our second week of the European shooting schedule a few days in Iceland and now Paris, France. We've managed even to shoot scenes inside the Louvre and an opulent dream sequence in the apartments of Napoleon Bonaparte (also at Musee de Louvre) !  Lots of  locations here, trying to capture the feel of Paris through the eyes of someone who can't even find the beauty in it when it's all around him. Someone who is so hurt that the world around him starts to wither in his eyes as his partner struggles to save him from himself. It's been an intense experience writing/directing/AND acting in this film but I'm very proud of it and of everyone involved as well as humbled beyond belief by the amazing outpouring of support to make this film a reality,  it may not be a feel good film, but it is one of very honest feeling.

It's an interesting moniker and I certainly appreciate the exposure, so only time will tell if the tag line sticks, but i do enjoy fucking with my audience's heads. And I do love mixing the Existential Dread and hard ons.

However, while the films range from “quite graphic” to “overwhelmingly graphic,” they are less about fucking than about fucking with the viewer’s head. “For me, showing sexuality, even explicit sexuality, doesn’t necessitate it being pornography,” Klaus explains. “The line between porn and art is a tough one to draw. [New Queer Cinema filmmaker] Todd Verow said, ‘Porn is where the viewer masturbates, art is where the artist masturbates.’” And not to give away some major narrative points, but by Verow’s definition, several of these films are decidedly art."

Your blog is in transition

Over the next few days many changes are coming to the site which will officially change name and purpose to www.TimeOutFilms.com. The THINK/FEEL archive will still exist and continue however my growing body of film work and career growth has necessitated this change , which a very pleasant surprise. I've been quite busy booking exhibitions and screening in North America and have three film shoots booked for the summer as well as a shoot in Europe this September (Iceland, England and France!!!!)
So please bear with me through these changes as we transition from our scrappy still to a stream-lined (slightly) more professional look.  Enjoy the subtle spring time shot -just imagine the swarms of bees I had to endure to take it so you can enjoy its heaven-like beauty without the hard working insects.

Mister is about the place in between adolescent desire and actuality. It is the place where fear, and desire originate, it represents the lens through which adolescent attraction views the outside world. For me it is an examination of the unrequited desire for the affection of older men as an adolescent. Wanting to be them, be with them and ultimately the fear of what that meant. The film was crafted as a loop of stop-motion/still-photography . Mister features Portland ,OR bar owner Woody Clarke as the model. Woody owns the excellent CRUSH.

A curator friend suggested I show a collection of my self portraits recently and it's made me think in depth about self-as-subject and the objectivity/subjectivity of that type of work.  The eroticized depiction of one's self  is a common trope in our digital age but one that doesn't always sit well with out outward façade. This work is about what we keep under wraps, the transparency of our transmissions and our ever mutable sense of self.  The times they are a changin'  and so are we. We are becoming our own pornographies and recontextualizing our naked truths in a new age of consumption.

I'll be screening a selection of my works and giving a talk on homoerotiscm, surrealism, horror, queer identity and art- you know your basic existential dread with hard-ons kinda thing!  It will also be a nice introduction to recent works and the premeire of a few pieces swell, so hey everyone who can make it should come!
